Jump Crypto, a blockchain infrastructure company, has unveiled a new bug bounty program that will offer Solana developers up to $1 million to uncover vulnerabilities in Firedancer. The program, sponsored by Immunefi, will run from July 10 to August 21, 2024.
Jump Crypto’s Firedancer aims to enhance the Solana blockchain by handling over 1 million transactions per second. The independent codebase reduces risks from supply chain attacks and common vulnerabilities in uniform systems.
The bounty campaign comes as Firedancer prepares to surpass "QUIC," a data transfer protocol by Google, which has struggled during network spikes. Cantelope Peel, a pseudonymous engineer at Jump Crypto, is spearheading the development.
Peel announced the bug bounty program on July 3, revealing that the team is testing critical components like Solana consensus and fork decision algorithms, and live voting.
Firedancer, built with C and Rust, is tailored to handle significant trade volumes. Solana Labs CEO Anatoly Yakovenko has emphasized Firedancer’s potential to boost the network’s speed and scalability.
Participants in the bounty program must register and provide know-your-client data. Bugs identified in Firedancer v0.1 will be investigated within 24 hours on weekdays, according to Immunefi.
Immunefi will offer a leaderboard and bug reports post-program. Firedancer was initially deployed on a Solana testnet in November 2023, with development starting in January 2023.
Peel had earlier suggested a similar project for Ethereum, but no significant progress has been made. On May 7, Franklin Templeton praised Firedancer, citing Solana’s growing potential as the market’s third-largest cryptocurrency.
