The EigenLayer Foundation has announced a new rewards program to incentivize stakers and operators for securing Actively Validated Services (AVSs). This program will offer 4% of its total EigenLayer (EIGEN) supply.
EigenLayer links various restaking protocols, rewarding stakers who restake their Ethereum (ETH) to secure AVSs. The new initiative will provide token-based rewards directly from AVSs for the first time.
The foundation will distribute 4% of the EIGEN supply via the "rewards boost" program. Rewards will be proportional to the number of AVSs a network participant supports.
"The goal of this design is to incentivize AVSs to begin distributing rewards to stakers and operators early," the foundation stated in a blog post.
Program to also benefit new AVSs
EigenLayer will also support AVSs that cannot distribute rewards initially. These AVSs’ supporters will still receive small EIGEN distributions.
The rewards floor will allow all legitimate AVSs to allocate some rewards to their stakers and operators, encouraging more services to join EigenLayer.
AVS rewards will launch in the coming weeks, with programmatic incentives set for the coming months. EigenLayer, which launched its contracts to the mainnet last June, has 4.8 million ETH and 108 million EIGEN restaked, 16 AVSs, and over 300 operators.
