Heather Morgan, convicted for her role in the Bitfinex hack involving 120,000 BTC, was reportedly seen at the recent Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville.
The Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, Tennessee, featured high-profile political figures and entrepreneurs, as well as some notable attendees. Reports indicate that Heather Morgan, also known as Razzlekhan, was spotted at the event. Her reasons for attending remain unclear.
Jameson Lopp, co-founder of Bitcoin security provider Casa, posted on X that he “crossed paths” with Morgan. He added that she "has been spotted at multiple Bitcoin events over the past year."
"It’s extremely suspicious that she is still walking free and hasn’t been sentenced for her crimes," said Lopp.
Morgan became notorious in the crypto space after the 2016 Bitfinex hack, where 120,000 BTC were stolen. She and her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein, were arrested and charged with conspiracy to launder the stolen cryptocurrency.
The U.S. Justice Department stated Morgan didn’t hack Bitfinex, which Lichtenstein did. However, she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to launder the stolen BTC. Lichtenstein also pleaded guilty.
Morgan and Lichtenstein face potential sentences of up to 25 years for conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. Morgan was released on house arrest on a $3 million bail. Lichtenstein remains in jail pending trial.
Morgan was granted permission to leave house arrest three days a week for work. Reports indicate she now positions herself as a "web3 advisor."
