In the first half of 2024, the crypto world lost $1.19 billion due to hacks, scams, and exploits, according to CertiK's latest report. 

Phishing Attacks Dominate  

Phishing attacks caused the most damage, with $497.7 million lost across 150 incidents.  It's the biggest threat to crypto security in 2024.

The largest single incident was an attack on DMM Bitcoin, resulting in a staggering $304.7 million loss.

Notable Breaches  

Other significant breaches included a $112.5 million loss by Chris Larsen and a $90 million hack of Turkish exchange BtcTurk.

Partial Recovery: $177.8 Million Returned  

Despite the losses, $177.8 million was returned to victims across 18 incidents, reducing net losses to $1.01 billion.

Comparing Yearly Losses  

In 2023, the crypto industry lost $2 billion, half of 2022's record $4 billion losses.  Despite the decline, 2024 still shows significant risks.

Q2 2024: A Rough Quarter  

Q2 2024 saw $688.1 million lost in 184 incidents, a 37% increase from Q1, highlighting the ongoing challenges in crypto security.
